Asbury Park teens charged in probe of multi-town car burglary spree
Two Asbury Park teens are arrested in neighboring Ocean Township, in connection with several weeks' worth of car burglaries in Ocean, Asbury, Deal, and Allenhurst.
Maverick Parreott, 18, and a 15-year-old were collared after a brief foot chase well after midnight on March 7 in the West Allenhurst section, according to Ocean Township police.
A resident noticed the pair looting cars at about 1:49 AM, police said. One responding officer spotted the pair in a car, illuminated by the interior light, police said. Parreott and the 15-year-old sprinted from the car, triggering the chase, police said.
Parreott was released in Ocean Township to await a court date on charges of burglary, theft, possession of burglary toos, obstruction, possession of a weapon and criminal mischief. The minor was released to a parent and must appear in family court.
Police did not elaborate on whether the suspects would face charges in each, or any, of the other three jurisdictions.
Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until found guilty in a court of law.
