An Asbury Park man faces twenty years in state prison after confessing to the fatal shooting of a city resident three years ago. 25-year-old Gregory Hopson pleaded guilty to one count of first degree aggravated manslaughter in the death of city resident Ryekill Agostini, age 30 in front of a Ridge Avenue pizza parlor in 2011.

According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, responding police officers found Agostini in the driver's seat of a vehicle at around 2:11 on October 11, 2011 but he was unresponsive. He was transported to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center and was pronounced dead the following day after suffering gun shot wounds to the head.

Hopson was arrested for the shooting on April 14, 2012 after an investigation determined that he shot Agostini following a verbal dispute. The handgun was never recovered.

Hopson also pleaded guilty to an unrelated charge of third degree theft stemming from an incident in the Cameo Bar less than two hours before the shooting.

Hopson is scheduled for sentencing on May 16, 2014 where prosecutors will recommend he receive a 20 year term in state prison subject to the No Early Release Act. Officials say the plea deal was reached after consulting with the victim's family.

Hopson has been in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $3 million dollars bail since his 2012 arrest.
