Asbury Park Man Charged with Labor Day Shooting in Neptune

An Asbury Park 25-year-old is charged with attempted murder for a Labor Day shooting in Neptune Township.

Malik A. Briggs was arrested Friday in connection with the wounding of a 28-year-old man on Monroe Avenue, according to acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Grammiccioni's office.

Authorities say the victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. The probe and arrest were conducted jointly by county, Asbury Park and Neptune Township investigators.

Briggs was also charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and certain persons not to possess weapons.

He was placed in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold, with bail set at $500,000 cash-only.
