Police say Robert McAlonie was confronted by the home owner inside the Oak Avenue dwelling Saturday, and bolted away on a bicycle.

Off-duty Police Captain Earl Gifford heard the description via radio transmission and found McAlonie near Asbury Park High School on Sunset Avenue, police said. According to authorities, the victim positively identified McAlonie.

Investigators suspect that McAlonie might have been involved in a North Wanamassa Drive burglary earlier this year, as well as similar incidents in Deal and Interlaken.

He's charged with two counts of burglary in Ocean Township, and two counts of burglary plus one theft charge in Deal. McAlonie was placed in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold. His bail was set at $50,000 with no option for release on payment of 10 percent.
