A Quick Round of Winter for New Jersey

Parts of New Jersey will get another quick taste of winter on Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a Freezing Rain Advisory for the northern half of the state north of Interstate 78 as freezing rain falls in the morning that could ice up untreated surfaces.

 

 

 

It won’t be a prolonged event as temperatures rise during the day.

 

Most of New Jersey was under a Winter Weather Advisory on Tuesday morning for snow that started falling overnight and is ended earlier than expected meaning leaving 1-2 inches of accumulation.

New Jersey state offices delayed their opening until 11 a.m. on Tuesday due to the snow. Non-essential employees did not need to report until 11 a.m. while essential employees reported at their usual time.

Schools around New Jersey delayed the start of classes on Tuesday to allow extra time for student to get to school.

Over 250 flights have already been canceled in and out of Newark Liberty Airport for today in anticipation of the snow according to FlightAware.com.

NJ Transit cross honored tickets on rail, light rail, buses and private bus carriers all day on Wednesday.


Temperature begin to warm into the 50s on Wednesday and possibly hit 60 degrees on Friday with the threat of strong thunderstorms which will bring on snowmelt and possible flooding because of snow-covered drains and sewers.

More winter weather could be on the way for next week according to long range forecasts.
