Heroin isn't the only drug of concern in Ocean County. Though not as widespread, "N-Bomb" or "25i" is similar to LSD and is tremendously dangerous, according to prosecutor's office spokesman Al Della Fave.

The drug can make the user paranoid, cause organ damage, lead to self-harm and even result in death.

"This is a synthetic drug," Della Fave said. "Like any other synthetic drugs, you have no idea who's doing the mixing, or what they're trying to achieve, so you're putting yourself at tremendous risks by utilizing that type of drug."

Della Fave said the drug comes in the same form as LSD.

"In many cases, it's so powerful," he said, "it's just a very small dot of the product that's on the blotter paper and once you lick it, you're in for the ride of your life. You're really rolling the dice. You have no idea what you're in for."

Like heroin, N-Bomb is cheap.

"Our big issue is the one-upmanship of each producer of the products," Della Fave said. "That's how we've gone, from purity levels in heroin, from 12 percent upward of 75. Everyone who produces these products is trying to outdo the other guy and provide something more powerful or what they would advertise to their clients as a better ride, and in most cases they end up in death or in tremendous harm to the individual."

According to Della Fave, thrill seekers are commonly attracted to this type of drug -- usually individuals who are not looking for a peaceful, calm high, rather wanting to experience something different.

"My advice: Go out and take skydiving lessons," he said. "It's 10 times safer than dealing on these things."

Della Fave said the real danger is, you don't know how much damage a drug is going to cause.

"In some cases, it translates into permanent damage," he said.

A recent case in Lacey Township involving a teen who almost died after taking N-Bomb underscores how dangerous it is, Della Fave said. He said the drug comes from outside Ocean County and is not considered a crisis for law enforcement here compared to the heroin issue.

"But when you do hear of them, they're extreme cases such as this one," Della Fave said.
