Thunderstorms To End Heat Wave In Parts Of New Jersey

The long holiday could end with a bang for portions of New Jersey thanks to another day in the summer heat in New Jersey with temperatures expected to feel like 100 degrees across most of the state.

7:00 p.m. - The Severe Thunderstorm Watch extended to cover Monmouth. Ocean, Middlesex, Atlantic, Burlington, Gloucester, Camden & Salem counties. There is a line of intense looking storms developing in Pennsylvania that will likely weaken as they move further east and closer to the ocean.

5:02 p.m. - The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for northern and central counties include Union, Warren, Hunterdon, Somerset, Morris, Essex, Passaic and Bergen counties until 10 p.m. for the possibility of strong storms. A line of strong cells was forming in central Pennsylvania moving to the northeast.

It's the last day of intense heat for the area as a Bermuda high that has been parked off the coast acting as a heat pump weakens  and moves to the south and east allowing a weak upper air disturbance to move through. There is an increased chance of showers & thunderstorms tonight through Wednesday.

A Heat Advisory is in effect for most of New Jersey  through 8 p.m. Sunday as temperatures in the 90s and high dew points combine for a heat index temperature of 100 degrees.

Mercer, Gloucester, Camden and Burlington counties are specifically under an Excessive Heat Watch as temperature will feel at least 102 degrees.

Salem, Atlantic, Cape May & Cumberland counties are not under an advisory but it will be nearly as hot and humid in those areas as well.

If you are spending any time outdoors it is recommended that you drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors.
