Another blue hero in Berkeley Township to be laid to rest

Berkeley Township police will help lay another blue hero to rest after the passing of retired detective John Sullivan Jr. Monday following a battle with cancer.

"On behalf of Chief Karin DiMichele the Berkeley Township Police extends our thoughts and prayers to the family of retired Detective John Sullivan Jr who passed away 11/28/2017 after bravely battling cancer," the Department said on Facebook.

The lifelong Bayville resident started with Berkeley Township Police in 1979 as a patrolman before later being promoted to the detective bureau where he "quickly became a standout investigator."

"Detective Sullivan mastered the art of interview and interrogation and taught his talent to thousands of police officers all over the state and country," the department statement read. "Detective Sullivan was well known and respected in his profession and proudly represented the Berkeley Township Police Department."

He's also the son of former Berkeley Township Deputy Police Chief John Sullivan and retired from the force in 2004.

"Like his father, John will be remembered as a legend who left a proud and positive mark on our agency and our profession," the statement said.

"Rest in Peace Detective John Sullivan Jr #5308."

Sullivan Jr. is the second member of the Berkeley Township Police family to pass away this fall after active Sargent Alison Wray passed away after suffering a stroke while on duty in October.
