Alleged Sleeping Bandit Faces Charges in Monmouth’s Ocean Township

Sleeping off a New Year's celebration in someone's apartment is normal - but it helps to know whose apartment it is.

Michael Garry, 41, of Monmouth's Ocean Township, faces municipal charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief after police say they found him inside a stranger's unit in the Twinbrook Village complex at dawn on January 1.

Police say the tenant alerted them to an intruder asleep in a bed in the apartment at about 6:18 AM. Investigators surmised that the unit had been unoccupied when Garry allegedly broke into the unit during the overnight hours into the first day of 2014.

He was released on his own recognizance and has a court hearing ahead.
