Aetna says about 90,000 small businesses and 2,600 individuals will need to choose new plans after Jan. 1.

Aetna's decision follows an announcement earlier this week from New Jersey's largest health insurance company. Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield said it would not be possible to create new plans quickly that comply with the requirements of Obama's Affordable Care Act.

Aetna says it had already developed new plans that comply with the law.

Spokeswoman Susan Millerick tells The Record (http://bit.ly/JejEnx ) newspaper the insurer believes not renewing old policies will avoid unnecessary complexity and confusion.
