The misery continued for the Giants last night with a last-minute loss to the Cowboys, their sixth straight in what will be a second consecutive losing season.

However it appears that rookie receiver Odell Beckham Jr. might be something very special and last night he made a spectacular one-handed touchdown catch that sent the twitter world buzzing. It is not only the catch of the year but one of the best I can ever remember seeing.

It could be a joyous holiday season for Toms River’s Frankie Edgar if he gets the title shot that appears in the horizon. The 33-year old father of two scored a convincing Ultimate Fighting Championship victory Saturday night in Austin, Texas over Cub Swanson in a matchup of the top contenders for the lightweight title held Jose Aldo.

Edgar improved to 17-4-1 with a late submission victory in a fight he totally dominated. An outstanding wrestler at Toms River East under Warren Reid and later Clarion University, Edgar is one of the most popular mixed martial arts fighters in the world and is a former champion hoping to get that belt back in 2015.

Shore Conference football fans are still shaking their heads in almost disbelief over the dominating wins collected by Jackson Memorial and Red Bank Catholic in the NJSIAA Sectional Semifinals this weekend. The Jaguars not only avenged their only loss of the season but did so with a 44-0 conquest of defending Central Jersey Group 4 champion Brick. Jackson took control from the very beginning and never looked back behind the play of senior quarterback/defensive back Joe DeMaio and the only thing standing in their way from finishing as the #1 team in the shore is Middletown South, who they will face on Saturday, December 6th at Rutgers (7pm).

Meanwhile RBC ended years of frustration with a 44-14 rout of St. Joseph of Montvale in Non-Public Group 3 and can win their first title in nearly 40 years if they beat Delbarton on Sunday, December 7th at MetLife Stadium (7pm). Also advancing to sectional finals were Manalapan, Matawan, Shore and Rumson.

Monmouth University ended a winning football season by beating Gardner-Webb on Saturday and the Hawks got major contributions from a pair of former Ocean County stars who will both be back. Manchester’s Joe Johnson intercepted two passes, running one back for the clinching touchdown while Brick Memorial’s Mike Basile closed an outstanding freshman season with 10 tackles and an interception.
