I had a good time last night as the Brick Township Chamber of Commerce installed their newly-elected officers and Board of Directors and at the same time presented Distinguished Jersey Shore Champion Awards.

The event was held at Crystal Point Yacht Club with a summer and boardwalk theme and not wanting to feel out of place I wore shorts (and Uggs to keep my feet warm).

Lincoln O’Hare of Fast Signs  took the oath of office as President of the chamber and following that I had the pleasure of presenting awards to three organizations that have and continue to help in the ongoing relief effort from Superstorm Sandy.

Honored were Christie Winters and The Visitation Relief Center on Mantaloking Road, Hometown Heroes which was represented by Mike Schwartz and Jen Barna, and Paul Barlo and his architectural firm Barlo & Associates.

Special thanks to Executive Director Michelle Eventoff for including me in last night’s program.

Had I not been at the Brick Chamber event I likely would have been at the wrestling match at Brick Memorial between the Mustangs and visiting Southern Regional.  What I would have witnessed was a terrific duel between the two longtime rivals which Southern clinched in the next-to-last bout to end a 3-match losing streak against the Mustangs.

The Rams victory means if they beat Jackson Memorial on Monday then Southern will claim its first Class A South championship since 2005.  For more on the match visit ShoreSportsNetwork.com.

The Monmouth University Men’s basketball team is having a much better than expected season and last night’s come-from-behind 63-60 win over Fairfield allowed the Hawks to reach the .500 mark at 10-10.  In their first season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Monmouth was picked to finish last in the coaches pre-season poll but with last night’s victory they are now tied for sixth place in the 11-team MAAC.

The Hawks go on the road for the next two games before returning home on February 3rd.  You can hear all their games on our Shore Sports Network’s 1160 & 1310AM and streaming live at ShoreSportsNetwork.com.
