A little of this and a little of that after a spectacular post Labor Day weekend which featured a pair of outstanding beach days,a real bonus.

It’s back to school for everyone today as many students are answering the bell for the first time.

Is it going to be one of those seasons for the football Giants?  They could not overcome six turnovers, two of which were returned for touchdowns in a 36-31 loss to the Cowboys last night.   Fantasy owners who took running back David Wilson were wondering if they made a mistake after he was benched following his second lost fumble of the game, a night in which he ran for just 19 yards.

Let’s hope Bruno Mars can sing and perform in cold weather because he’s the choice for the halftime show at the Super Bowl on February 2nd at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands.  The NFL made the formal announcement yesterday in Times Square and the 27-year old Grammy-winning Mars said he’s honored to perform with some 100 million TV viewers watching.

The NFL first started using big-name music acts annually in 1993 when Michael Jackson performed and Mars will be paid the same as the others: nothing.  It’s all about the exposure, promotion and hype.

South Seaside Park has its own version of restaurant row and it seems like locals and visitors alike have been making their way there.  Within walking distance you have Chef Mike’s ABG (formally the Atlantic Bar & Grill), Bum Roger’s Crabhouse,   Berkeley Restaurant and Fish Market, Capriccio Ristorante and Ebby’s Café.

I visited what we affectionately call “Bums” over the weekend and it’s been completely remodeled and the place looks great. Eating the garlic crabs is a marathon and not a sprint and requires cold beer. A nice combination.

A very happy 90th birthday to Fred Alimonti of Greenbrier Woodlands in Toms River who celebrated the special occasion with family at Villa Amalfi yesterday.  He is my wife’s Uncle and a terrific guy, plus a life-long Mets fan who has seen more bad than good.
