I wasn't the only one in my neighborhood watching in awe last night as the atmosphere over Ocean County produced some of the most vivid cloud-to-cloud lightning that I've ever seen.

I'll be the first to admit that standing outside with my cell phone camera raised to the sky may not have been the smartest thing I've ever done from a self-preservation standpoint, but the jaw-dropping video that I got definitely made it feel worth it.

Of course, this is where I have to be responsible and say "don't try this at home".

The conventional wisdom is that if you're close enough to see lightning, you're close enough to be hit by lightning.

Conditions as of this writing are still more than favorable for rocky weather, including vivid light shows like we saw last night. So please be smarter than I am and get yourself indoors if you see the skies lighting up when it's not thanks to fireworks!
