With what is going on all around us I think we can agree that laughter is needed more than ever.

If laughter is indeed good medicine than you can get a dose of it tomorrow night when comedian Jim Dailakis performs as part of a special benefit to support veterans with PTSD.  His appearance at St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church in Toms River will include a buffet dinner and the evening is being sponsored by the Toms River chapter of AHEPA, a philanthropic and fraternal organization in the Greek Orthodox community.

They are raising money as part of a national project “Service Dogs for Veterans” which has proven to be very successful and clearly needed.  It was only last month that an Iraq war veteran in Brick took his own life and service dogs have made a clear difference in the lives of many who are suffering from depression.

The problem is many families can’t afford the $15,000 it costs for a highly specialized and trained dog so the local chapter of AHEPA wants to help and are working with the Lt. Dennis Zillinski II Memorial Fund and K9S for Warriors.

As for Dailakis, he’s a native Australian who has spent most of his adult life in New York City and when he’s not playing comedy clubs like Caroline’s and The Laugh Factory and performing at places like The Borgata in Atlantic City works as an actor and writer.

I have seen videos of him performing and there is no doubt he’ll produce a lot of belly laughs tomorrow while doing it for a great cause.  Tickets are still available and will even be sold at the door tomorrow night.  They start at $65 and that includes dinner and there will be a cash “Beer & Wine Bar” along with raffles throughout the evening.

For tickets and information you can call 732-678-6431 or visit ahepafamilytomsrivernj.ticketleap.com.  Tickets will be available tomorrow night and doors open at 6:30pm.  If you don’t already have plans then come out and laugh while helping veterans in need at the same time
