As I pulled into my neighborhood last night, a strange sound filled the air...

It was a high pitched whine that I figured was coming from a wonky light fixture or maybe one of the electrical boxes throughout the neighborhood.

But as I got out of my car and started walking across the parking lot, I noticed that the sound got louder as I walked, and it seemed to be coming from the direction of my house.

So, of course, the worst case scenarios started to go through my mind - a smoke detector, a CO2 alarm, etc. But, if that was the case, one of my neighbors surely would have gotten in touch with me to let me know that something was wrong.

Then, as I passed the neighborhood trash dumpster, I realized that was where the sound was coming from.

It was inside the dumpster.

At this point, I was feeling a combination of curiosity and, thankfully, better judgment. As badly as I wanted to know what the heck was in there making all of that noise, I didn't think that dumpster diving would be the best use of my time.

This morning when I went to walk my dog, it was still whining away. So I guess we'll have to wait until either someone's curiosity gets the best of them to find out what the heck it is, the mysterious object's batteries die, or the garbage truck comes and the mystery will never be solved.
