It was not easy getting out of bed this morning when the alarm went off at 2:46 a.m.

Not because I was tired, because I usually am, but because of pain in my back, hands, hamstrings. I’m sure I’m not alone because it seemed like everyone was outside this weekend working in their yards or on their homes. That is, when they were not in a place like Home Depot or Lowe's or at a garden center because this weekend spring really sprung.

For us it was mostly the backyard with the main project the painting of a concrete patio. My wife does about 95% of the outside work but I handled this one pretty well if I do say so myself and finished just in time to watch the final round of the Masters. More on that in a moment but for many of us weekends are now at least partially devoted to working around the house. In truth the only good thing about winter is at least you don’t spend your weekends having to work outside. That is if you don’t count shoveling snow.

Speaking of the Masters, the only negative to me is that it’s like playing the Super Bowl the first week of September. It’s clearly the biggest event in golf but yet it’s the first major of the year. At times I wish it were later on the calendar. However, once again Augusta National gave us drama, if not for who the winner would be but whether or not he would set a record.

Jordan Spieth did become the first wire-to-wire winner in 39 years and it looked like he would set a tournament record but in the end the 21-year old Texan had to settle for tying Tiger Woods’ 18-under par total set in 1997 when ironically Tiger was 21. Spieth and Rory McIlroy are the new faces of golf and besides being young and great they appear to be the type of players who are easy to root for.

It’s not going to be a big box office success but we really enjoyed Danny Collins which is in movie theaters now. Al Pacino is terrific as an aging pop star who tries to turn around his life and bond with a son he’s never met. The storyline is a bit predictable but it doesn’t matter and any movie with the music of John Lennon can’t be bad. I give it two thumbs up…for whatever that’s worth.

2-year old Trent Harris of Manahawkin wowed BlueClaws fans with his performance of the National Anthem at FirstEnergy Park Sunday. The son of Cincinnati Bengal Clark Harris showed no signs of stage fright in front of a few thousand fans with his Dad standing close by. Trent’s first public performance was at a basketball game this winter at Southern Regional where Clark was a 3-sport star during his high school days.
