Generations of Seaside Heights and Seaside Park visitors have taken rides on the iconic, 104-year-old Dentzel Carousel that sat only feet away from the ocean up until the devastating fire of last fall. The good news is that it survived, but it's future is still a little up in the air.

The carousel is now in the hands of auction house Guernsey's, and it will hit the block this fall.

The auction house says that, ideally, they would like to sell the landmark as a whole, so it can be preserved intact. But, if someone doesn't come forward to buy it as-is, it will be dismantled and sold piecemeal.

Of course, most people like you and I don't exactly have the cash sitting around to buy a century old landmark, but hopefully someone, or a group, will step forward to preserve this much loved Ocean County landmark.

What are some of your favorite memories of the Seaside carousel? Tell us in the comments!
