Some random thoughts the day after one of the most dramatic and entertaining Super Bowls of all-time.

I don’t need to tell you about the game because you saw it. If you didn’t then you obviously don’t care so why bother.  However after a slow start this game moved at a rapid pace, despite the endless commercial breaks and long halftime; more on that in a moment.

The game was well-played and in the end the two heroes were superstar Tom Brady and rookie defensive back Malcolm Butler who was unknown before the game and is now a celebrity in New England.  His end zone interception with 20 seconds left set off a celebration in Boston and left those in Seattle in total shock.  It also left the Twitter world buzzing as many called it simply the worst play call in Super Bowl history and it’s hard to argue with that.

As usual there was much speculation about the halftime show and I was okay with Katy Perry although her wardrobe selections were iffy.  I did love one tweet in which a husband asked his wife why it takes so long for her to get ready when Perry changed outfits four times in 12 minutes.  Perry was good, Lenny Kravitz was okay but seemed out of place and I’m not a Missy Elliot fan but again the halftime show was not aimed at a 59-year old man

Of course many were as interested in the commercials as the game and at $4 million plus for a 30-second ad you don’t want to fumble.  The general consensus was Nationwide Insurance did with a commercial aimed at sending a message that most childhood deaths are preventable but it did not resonate well with viewers although I thought it was quite bold.

Many of the commercials were actually tear-jerkers and a common theme was showing Dads as loving, caring guys.  Dove Men + Care, Nissan and Toyota all focused on Father’s and having lost mine just three months ago it kind of hit home.  There weren’t too many really funny spots although as always Doritos delivered and I smiled at ones for Fiat, Snicker’s and Avocados from Mexico.  O

f course Budweiser came up big with its Lost Dog and Clydesdale commercial which most rated as the best of the best.  I also applaud the domestic violence commercial with the woman making a 9-1-1 call, I liked the “Like a Girl” spot, the Microsoft one with Braylon and the Carnival Cruise Lines commercial using JFK’s voice.

Most of all I liked spending Super Bowl Sunday and my birthday with my wife Jane who treated me like the King I am.  Thanks Babe!  (I know I’m not a King).
