In general terms men seem to pay less attention to their health then women.  Maybe it’s some kind of macho thing but a lot of men do whatever they can to avoid visits to the doctor, especially when they are feeling okay.

Many figure that regular check-ups are not necessary and the only time you go is when you are truly sick.  Sadly we know the result is often a treatable sickness or illness goes undiagnosed and by the time it is discovered the options have been reduced.

On Wednesday, September 9th Community Medical Center is presenting a special event focused on men’s wellness and I have a vested interest.  “Guys’ Night Out” will be held at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center and yours truly will serve as the Emcee for the men’s health event which includes dinner.

Among the topics will be how to lower risk factors for having a stroke which occurs every 40 seconds in the United States, a discussion about the latest in cancer prevention and treatment and how laughter is a great way to lower stress levels.

While the first two topics will be presented by Doctors Gerald Ferencz and David D’Ambrosio the laughter and stress portion will be in the hands of comedian Joey Vega.  It should be a really good night and it’s not limited to men as spouses and friends are invited.  “Guys Night Out” is next Wednesday (Sept 9) at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center in Toms River starting at 5:30 p.m. but you must register in advance by calling the Barnabas Health Line at 888-724-7123.  Hope to see you guys next week!
