Rarely do I give you the “glass is half full” perspective but I am today.

As bad as it seems this winter has been we continue to dodge any significant snow storms as what we’ve received today is not what it looked like a couple of days ago. Sure it’s an inconvenience and you’ll have to clean off your car and shovel (or use a leaf blower) your sidewalk and driveway but let’s be honest. We have gotten less snow this winter then Boston gets in a week.

Now for the “glass is half empty” viewpoint. We will likely see single digits several more times this week and the next chance the mercury gets over freezing won’t be until the weekend. That’s enough weather and I’ll leave the rest to Dan Zarrow. However it is only 19 days until the Ocean County St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Seaside Heights, a sign that spring is not far away.

Since it was a long holiday weekend for many a look back at some things still worth mentioning:

Brick Memorial won its 9th NJSIAA Wrestling championship when it claimed the inaugural Group 5 title on Sunday at the Sun National Bank Arena in Trenton. However it is the first state title for Coach Mike Denver who continues to build on the legacy built by Tony Caravella and followed by others through the years. Early indication I get from those covering Sunday’s wrestling was that the expansion to five groups diluted the quality of wrestling and the move to Trenton was not a positive one.

The Shore Conference Basketball Tournament is scheduled to get underway tonight with nine boys and 8 girls opening round games. That will likely be impacted with school closings and for more on the SCT you can check out shoresportsnetwork.com. The boy’s field is wide open and I expect plenty of upsets while the girls division should be dominated by the usual suspects.

Saturday Night Lives’ 40th anniversary special Sunday night was good if not great but most impressive was getting all those stars, past and present in the same place on the same night in New York. Of all the bits I laughed hardest during “Celebrity Jeopardy” and I only found out later that Alex Trebek was actually in the audience…would loved to have seen his reactions to some of the answers and/or questions.
