A Neptune man who allegedly held up a store on South Street in Newark Thursday by demanding money at gunpoint has been arrested and charged with robbery and weapon possession, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

22-year old Kalil Herring walked into the store on South Street Thursday afternoon and allegedly began demanding money at gunpoint, then fled the scene.

Witnesses told investigators they saw a man with Herring’s description heading towards New Jersey Railroad Avenue and Ferry Street.

Police caught up with him near the 100-block of Ferry Street and he surrendered his 9-mm gun.

A verbal family argument looks to have gone unresolved Tuesday night after Manchester Township police say an 85-year old resident allegedly stabbed his 58-year old son in the stomach with a knife Wednesday morning.

The son was able to disarm his father and get away before police arrived at the Robin Street home around 6-am.

Victor Brescia was placed under arrest and charged.

His son John was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
