No charges filed, and no identities disclosed, regarding Monday night's car-and-bicycle crash in Lakewood that killed a 61-year-old township man. Police said that he tried to cross Route 70, in the path of a car driven by a Toms River woman.

A suspect is attached to a crime of opportunity in Howell Township. Police issued surveillance images of a man who they believe quickly clipped a suitcase from the lobby of Dynasty Asian Fusion on Route 9, and took off in a car on September 23. The luggage contained clothes for a three-year-old.

New Jersey's two main gubernatorial candidates debate for the first time tonight. Democrat Phil Murphy maintains a comfortable double-digit lead over Republican Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno in most voter surveys, though a sizeable number admit that they know, and care, little about either.

The situation is dire in California, where wildfires rage into their third day, decimating Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino Counties, the heart of the state's wine country. At least 11 people have died, more than 100 are missing, and more than 20,000 reportedly have evacuated.
