We may never know the full story behind the tragic deaths of a Lacey Township family.

Investigators believe the husband and father killed his wife, their young son and dog before trying to take his own life.

He died while hospitalized. Their identities and cause of death have yet to be issued.

Jersey kids only have a few more weeks of vacation left before heading back to school after labor day.

David Saenz of the New Jersey department of education says student safety is a top priority.

"The state has a system in place to ensure that all employees who come in contact with students go through a criminal history background check," said Saenz.

He adds if teacher or any other school employee is charged with a crime and is fingerprinted, State Police will notify the department of ed and "disqualifying" action may be taken.

Separate from the super-storm relief package sandy impacted homeowners in Toms River can head to town hall next week to find out if they're eligible for FEMA home-elevation grants.

Director of housing mitigation services for consulting firm Witt O'Brien's, Kelly George explains that while the flood mitigation assistance may seem similar to a super-storm relief package, it's not tied to any particular disaster.

"To be eligible for this money, the structure has to be insured by the National Flood Insurance Program," said George.

The structures they're looking for in this program are...

“There ones that FEMA has designated as repetitive loss or severe repetitive loss,” said George. “Those are your multi-loss ones, typically a short period of time structures because they have the greatest drain on the National Flood Insurance Fund.”
