Dmitrii A. Dorzhinov, 53, of Lakewood, is charged with murder for the death of Gela Suqiashvilli, 54, also of the township, in the Crossroads Apartments.

He also faces two weapons counts, according to the office of Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato.

Dorzhinov was placed in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River in default of $1,000,000 bail.

Police responding to a 911 call in Russian fielded by Howell Township police, interpreted through language line, at 1:40 AM, first encountered Dorzhinov several units away from Apartment 149, where he explained through language line that he was involved in a fight, authorities said.

Officers found Suqiasvilli in a chair, unresponsive, with multiple slashes and punctures throughout the upper torso and face. He was pronounced dead at 1:48 AM.

At headquarters, Dorzhinov spoke to Ocean County Major Crimes Detective John Murphy and Lakewood PD Detective Oscar Valmon, interpreted by Lakewood PD Officer Tymur Zvalyuk.

Investigators allege that it began as wrestling and escalated to the stabbing, at which point Dorzhinov left the apartment and called 911.

Dorzhinov was placed under arrest at 9:30 AM Tuesday.

Authorities did not disclose whether Dorzhinov and Suqiashvilli are either native or naturalized US citizens or foreign nationals, whether either or both have family here or elsewhere, or the nature of their relationship, nor did they speculate on the reasons that they began to wrestle.

The Prosecutor's Office reminds that charges are accusations, and that defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty.
