A multi-vehicle accident on Route 72 in Stafford Township claims the life of a 20-year-old Barnegat Man. According to a police report, Matthew Epinger succumbed to his injuries after swerving his Volkswagon Jetta into the eastbound lane and sideswiping a Nissan Xterra operated by Margaret Brenner, 59, of Pennsylvania near Ivy Road at around 9:21 Wednesday night, causing Breener to lose control and collide into a tree.

However, Epinger's car continued in the eastbound lane, striking a BMW operated by Ralph Rodak, 54 of Pennsylvania head-on but then after the vehicles came to a rest, a Dodge Neon operated by Thomas Law, 54 of King of Prussia, PA, traveling east on Route 72, crashed into Epinger's vehicle which was in the middle of the roadway.

Police said Law sustained a minor injury and refused medical treatment. Rodak and Epinger had to be extricated by the Stafford Fire Department.

Rodak sustained a severe leg injury and was transported to Atlantic City Trauma Center. Rodak's Passenger, Brittany Rodak, 24, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center.

Epinger sustained a severe injury from the collision and was transported to the Atlantic City Trauma Center where he later died.

Police said Route 72 was closed in both directions during the investigation for approximately 2 hours. The crash is under investigation. Police are asking any witnesses to contact them at 609-597-1189 ext 8436.
