It's 15 years this month since a young Toms River mom vanished - and was found strangled to death in a Lakewood thicket.

The case might be cold, but it isn't closed. Lakewood police and Ocean County investigators issue a new call for information that can help them find the killer of Gabrielle Mueller.

The mother of two children was last seen alive on the night of Sunday, April 1, 2001. The following morning, she was reported as a missing person to Toms River police.

One day later, Tuesday, April 3, Gabrielle's body was found in a patch of trees near Salem Street, not far from Lakewood Industrial Park. Township police found her blue Toyota Corolla later the same day, in a different part of town.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Cold Case Unit acts as advocates for victims in unsolved cases, and places no time frame on solving disappearances and seemingly-senseless deaths.

The Prosecutor's Major Crime Unit can be reached at 732-929-4760. In Lakewood, Detective Sergeant Greg Staffordsmith and his investigators are at 732-363-0200, extension 5318.

The Ocean County Compendium of History, perhaps the most complete annals of the county's evolution, lists more than 40 unsolved murders, dating back to the county's first recorded homicide in 1852.
