Authorities say no charges have been filed following a motor vehicle crash in which one pedestrian was struck and killed while walking on a sidewalk in Bergen County Sunday.

According to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, Ioannis Kapantaise, 69, of Park Ridge was killed and Maochia Hu, 64, of Montvale sustained serious injuries when a 2016 Volvo driven by a 61-year-old Park Ridge resident struck the two men as they were walking in the area of Park Avenue and Diedtrich Lane in Park Ridge around 7:54 p.m.

During the course of an investigation, police determined that the driver of the Volvo was traveling west on Park Avenue when the car left the roadway and struck the two pedestrians. Both were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where Kapantais was pronounced dead. Hu remains in critical condition at the hospital.

Authorities say no charges have been filed against the driver, but the case remains under investigation.
