JACKSON — A person was killed Friday night in a head-on car crash that also injured four others.

The crash happened before 6:41 p.m. when a 1993 Chevy 1500 pickup truck, which had been traveling north on South Hope Chapel Road, collided with a 2004 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, which police believe was turning left onto Ridgeway Boulevard.

The front-seat passenger of the minivan had to be extricated by firefighters and died after being flown to a hospital.

The minivan's driver, a 56-year-old Howell man, was flown to a hospital with serious injuries, while a backseat passenger was taken by ambulance and treated for moderate injuries.

The 31-year-old driver of the pickup was partially ejected and was flown to a hospital with serious injuries. His 14-year-old female passenger was hospitalized with moderate injuries, police said.

Police on Saturday morning did not identify any of the victims or give an age for the passenger who died.

"There is no indication at this time that alcohol or drugs had been a contributing factor," police said Saturday as investigators continued their work.

The dark intersection has no traffic light or street lamps. The speed limit is 50 mph.

Police ask witnesses to call 732-928-1111 or 732-929-2027.
