The fire started in the back of Wilson’s Deli, located in the back of the Jumping Brook Shopping Center strip mall on Route 33. The blaze caused fire and smoke damage to the deli and adjacent liquor store Neptune Fire Chief Donald M. Colarusso tells the Asbury Park Press.

The blaze started around 7:30 p.m. and burned for about 30 minutes. Firefighters from several area departments worked to quickly extinguish flames before were able to spread to other businesses. Jumping Brook Liquor is the only  other business outside of the deli rep said to have reportedly sustained damage during the fire. The liquor store suffered moderate damage and is not expected to immediately re-open.

Officials say one person was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for smoke inhalation, according to  Chief Colarusso.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
